"The symbolism of everyday objects"
“The relationship between man and objects is opaque, not everything appears in the light of day. Some objects bring luck, others do not.” - Andréa Branzi
For its first exhibition, Pick-Up Art explores the meaning and emotional resonance of the objects we choose to surround ourselves with. Curator Julia Bidermann, who has always been fascinated by objects, their materials, and the stories they hold, brings together three contemporary French ceramists. The exhibition delves into the symbolism of everyday objects through three distinct and powerful aesthetic approaches. The vases and objects on display draw inspiration from universal symbols and myths.

DIANE ALEXANDRE :
Diane Alexandre, born in 1983, is a French artist and ceramist whose vases and sculptures are deeply inspired by Greek mythology. Living and working between Paris and Athens, she began her creative journey at a young age, influenced by her grandfather’s storytelling. After earning a degree in modern literature, she pursued studies in graphic design and art history at the “École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs” in Paris. Over the years, Diane has explored various artistic mediums, but she has recently focused on developing her sculptural work in ceramic and porcelain. Her travels in the Cyclades over the past eight years have further fueled her quest for meaning, drawing inspiration from the myths, shapes, and symbols of the region.
FORMA BY SUZIE LAPIERRE D’ARGY :
Suzie Lapierre d’Argy, known as Forma, presents a collection of objects inspired by ritual items and organic elements. Her trays, jars, and vases reflect the essence of a bygone era, both in their formal appearance and through the ancestral mix-clay technique she employs for certain pieces. This process involves layering different naturally colored earths with oxides, resulting in a marbled effect integrated into the material. Forma crafts each piece by hand, leaving a tender imprint of her touch in every shape. Her creations embody both the strength and simplicity of prehistoric artifacts, appearing simultaneously fragile and sturdy.
CAMILLE ROMAGNANI :
Camille Romagnini has created for Pick-Up Art a collection of sculptural objects inspired by “moon doors”, an architectural element found in traditional Chinese gardens. These doors serve as entrances or junction points, creating “passages” within the gardens. In Chinese culture, the moon symbolizes unity, harmony, and wholeness. Camille Romagnani is a Franco-Chinese artist born in 1992, she graduated in product design from the ENCI des Ateliers in textile design in 2018 and from the ENSEMA Olivier de Serre in product design in 2013. She has since developed her personal universe by working at the intersection of art and craftsmanship. Her practice explores natural elements through her work with materials and colors. After living in Athens, where she discovered ceramics, she established her studio in Paris.
